Role Summary
Our older product is developed in Java with a Swing UI and communicates with the server
over HTTP. The Web version is powered by the Pay Framework, uses Twitter Bootstrap for
base CSS alongside JQuery, knockout and other JavaScript frameworks on the front-end. The
database is SQL Server 2012.
Java SE 6+ experience is a must as is some experience with JavaScript/HTML/CSS even if only
on personal projects. An interest in interface design and usability would also be desirable
along with SQL experience.
Work is currently divided between two scrum teams and consists of maintenance, fulfilling
customer requests for functionality and developing enhancements to make the product
attractive to new customers or markets and keeping us ahead of competition in existing
markets.
As a junior you will be joining a 7 person team consisting of 5 developers and 2 testers. Your
code will be reviewed by other developers (in fact everyone’s code is reviewed by each
other) and you should expect to be writing code deployed to production in your first month.
This will be a great opportunity to learn not only from some excellent software developers
but be on a project where we are adopting new technologies as we migrate to the new
browser interface. In short, it might be a challenging role but it will also help you get an
excellent grounding in the skills required for software development in a modern
development organisation. You will be joining one of two Scrum teams consisting around 6
members split between developers and testers. We work in fortnightly sprints and are
currently deploying to production at the end of each sprint.
We have continuous integration builds that run our unit, functional tests and Selenium tests.
We maintain code coverage with Cobertura and use FindBugs to uncover potential issues.
